Shawna Hicks-Cranston

I grew up in a very small town in New Hampshire and after college visited Florida with a friend and never left. I love the sound of the waves and having my toes in the sand. Don’t get me wrong, growing up in New England was wonderful, and looking back as an adult, I appreciate it much more now. I’ve had the opportunity to work for some amazing companies in Florida and meet so many people who helped me along the way to where I am today. My husband and I started PostNet of LWR after the birth of our daughter. PostNet allowed us to stop traveling between three cities as we did with our last company and really grow roots in our community. Lakewood Ranch is much larger than the small town I grew up in but it has the feeling of a small town with the amenities of a large city and is filled with some of the most caring people you will find.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
My husband, Brad and I have an 11 year old daughter. Brad has a set of grown twin boys and I’m blessed that my parents just moved to Florida last year.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
At PostNet of Lakewood Ranch, my team and I have the opportunity to help clients with growing the businesses they love. Most people start a business because they are passionate about something. Soon after they find out so much more comes with starting a business and their focus is taken away from the reason they opened the business. I get to sit with clients and be the helping hand they need to get a project completed or bounce ideas around with them to help them reach a goal. From designing a logo to creating a product catalog, we can design, print, and help them thrive. We are the marketing and printing partners when they need us.

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
Waterlefe Golf & River Club, The Granary and of course Bonefish Grill, where I met my husband

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
15 years

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
We have so many great people in our community and one that I treasure knowing is Orenda Hunniford. She is a Director with Mary Kay, a homeschooling mom, and married to her high school sweetheart. She gives 110% to her Mary Kay team and is truly the best in the business. I’ve known her for years and have watched her cultivate so many success stories within her team. She is a training powerhouse and loves to share her passion with her team. I love seeing her pink SUV around town and know how much dedication to her family and team it takes year after year to drive that car.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
I’d love to go to Greece. I’d love to see, in person, all the places I promoted when I worked for a cruise line who sailed to the area. I’d love to experience it with my family and share other parts of the world with my girl.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
I’m a huge Hallmark Channel junkie. My family knows I’d happily watch Christmas movies year round.

Q: What advice would you give to people?
Enjoy what you are doing and give back to others.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
To go back to Alaska with our daughter so she can experience it, like we did on our honeymoon.

Q: What is your go to band when you cant decide what to listen to?
Having an 11 year old in the house we are often listening/watching TikTok videos and embarrassing her with my lack of dancing skills!

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
The Granary – It’s filled with friendly people and great food. Reminds me of the small family restaurants while growing up.

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
Sandra Sandberg. I love meeting strong women who want to help other women lean in and reach the goals they have.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
Our community is filled with many giving people and we have so many ways to give back. With over 6,500 non-profits in Bradenton & Sarasota, we have endless ways to give back. And Wow….does our community give back! It’s fabulous and all the big hearted people in our community are amazing!

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
In 5 years, I see myself faced with the task of having to teach our daughter to drive! As for PostNet of LWR in 10 years, we will be celebrating 20 years of helping clients grow the businesses they love and I hope to be mentoring our staff to open a PostNet location of their own and setting them up for a successful future.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
Does quirky fall under interesting? I find myself humming Christmas carols year round.

Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
Getting off a helicopter on the top of a glacier in Alaska

Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
Favorite month is December, Christmas is my Dads favorite holiday so I love celebrating his memory all month long. Favorite holiday – Easter hands down. Best day of the year is my Girls birthday, since my husband and I seem to miss our wedding anniversary more years than we care to admit.
